Ndamukong Suh And Wes Welker Both Attempted An Extra Point (Videos)
Yesterday was not a good day to be a kicker in the NFL as two of them (the Pats’ Stephen Gostkowski and the Lions’ Jason Hanson) were forced to leave their respective games with injuries. Yes, that would be two more than the usual zero we see sustain any sort of injury on a weekly basis. So without their starting place kickers available, the Patriots and Lions had to resort to the legs of Wes Welker and Ndamukong Suh, and while the former was successful in his extra point attempt, the latter was only inches wide, ringing the ball off the goal post.
If you had asked me which player I would expect to step in for the Patriots to kick, Welker would be a likely choice. However, I would love to find out what the Lions’ thought process was behind their decision to allow Suh to kick that PAT attempt. After all, the guy is a 6’4, 307 pound defensive tackle. Kicking probably isn’t his forte. Perhaps the punter may have been a better choice here?
Here is a look at Suh’s miss.
And here is Welker’s successful PAT attempt.
