NCAA College Football Pick’em: Week 13
We were looking for a big bounce back effort in week 13 and we got just that as our picks went a perfect 3-0. Both Big 10 battles unfolded exactly as planned, with the Iowa Hawkeyes keeping things close the entire way against the Ohio State Buckeyes, while the Wisconsin Badgers proved to be too much for the Wolverines. As for our lone ACC pick, the Hookies continued their winning ways and took advantage of a Hurricanes team that was without their starting quarterback, Jacory Harris.
A perfect week 13 boosted our record to an impressive 19-13-1, and with three weeks to go in the college football season, there is still time to improve upon that record. That is exactly what we plan to do.
Game: (2) Auburn at (11) Alabama
Spread: Alabama -5
Reason: Sure, the Crimson Tide may be riding a 20-game winning streak at home, and they may be just about the toughest offense Auburn’s defense will see all season, but there is one x-factor that still has us liking the Tigers in this year’s edition of the Iron Bowl. That x-factor is quarterback Cam Newton. For those who haven’t noticed, Newton has accumulated a total of 38 touchdowns (21 pass, 17 rush) thus far through 11 games. And while he does find himself up against a stiff Crimson Tide defense this time around, don’t expect that to slow him down all that much. After all, he has already shredded what was believed to be a tough LSU defense, as he rushed for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns against them. Expect another big game from Newton on Friday as he leads his Tigers to this marquee win on route to the BCS Championship Game.
Game: (21) Arizona at (1) Oregon
Spread: Over/Under 62
Reason: Here is one guarantee we can make for this game: Oregon will put up a boatload of points. The Ducks are coming off a thrilling two-point win over the California Bears that saw their top-rated offense put up just 15 points. After having a week off to work out the kinks, look for the Ducks to get back to their usual high-scoring ways. That shouldn’t be problem as their potent rushing attack (291.1 rushing yards per game) will be up against a Wildcats defense that has struggled to stop the run as of late. And with Arizona trailing throughout this game, as we expect them to, quarterback Nick Foles should be airing it out and putting up a fair number of points for his Wildcats, ensuring that this game goes over the total.
Game: (4) Boise State at (19) Nevada
Spread: Boise State -14.5
Reason: By no means do we believe that the Boise State Broncos will come out of this game with a blemish to their perfect record, but just don’t expect them to walk all over the Nevada Wolf Pack like they have done with most of their previous opponents. Although Nevada has not beaten the Broncos since 1998, their last three games against them have been rather close, losing by two, seven and eleven points in 2007, 2008 and 2009, respectively. Look for the Wolf Pack to keep it close once again, as they use their home-field advantage to stay within the two-touchdown spread.
Current Record: 19-13-1 (Last Week: 3-0)
