Picture Of The Day: What You Lookin’ At Andy?
It was on this day in 2007 Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was shot in the leg during a home invasion. The bullet struck Taylor’s femoral artery which caused massive bleeding and ultimately cost him his life.
Sean Taylor was a first round, fifth overall pick of the Washington Redskins in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at the University of Miami, where he won a National Championship in 2001. In his first few years as a professional, Taylor asserted himself as one of the best young safeties in the league and was considered one of the hardest hitters in football. Prior to the beginning of his final season, Sports Illustrated named Taylor the hardest-hitting player in the league. Sean also excelled in coverage, as at the time of his death he was tied for the second in the NFL with five interceptions.
In the first game following his death, the Redskins lined up with only 10 men on the field for the first play of the game to honour their fallen teammate. After being named to the Pro Bowl, the NFC also lined up with 10 men for the first play of the game in remembrance of Sean Taylor.
