NCAA College Football Pick’em: Week 14
It has been quite the final stretch to the 2010 NCAA Football season for us. We followed a perfect week 12 with yet another unblemished 3-0 record in week 13. The Auburn Tigers didn’t let an early deficit keep them down as Cam Newton was able to guide them towards a remarkable season-saving comeback. Meanwhile, it was another shootout in Eugene as the Ducks put up 48 points of their own to put their game against Arizona over the total. And Friday’s NCAA action was capped off by a marquee win for Nevada that ended the National Championship hopes of Boise State. Being on the winning side of all three of those games, we were able to put more shopping money in our pockets during what we will define as a very successful Black Friday.
Our recent success has left us with a 22-13-1 overall record, and with only one week remaining on the schedule there is no doubt that we will end the 2010 season with a winning record. The only question is how many wins can we make it?
Game: (1) Auburn at (19) South Carolina
Spread: Auburn -6
Reason: These two teams met earlier in the year, but that was when Auburn was ranked No. 17 in the nation and were barely considered a National Championship contender. The Gamecocks, on the other hand, were ranked ahead of the Tigers at No. 12 in the nation, but both teams appear to have gone in opposite directions since then. Following their 35-27 victory over South Carolina on September 25th, Auburn has remained undefeated, beating the likes of Arkansas, LSU and Alabama on the way. As for the Gamecocks, they have lost two more games since then to Kentucky and Arkansas. Look for Cam Newton and the Tigers to deal South Carolina their third loss since they last met, and their fourth loss of the season as Auburn rolls to a big win in the SEC Championship Game, and earns a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.
Game: (21) Florida State at (15) Virginia Tech
Spread: Virginia Tech -4
Pick: Virginia Tech
Reason: After a terrible start to the season, Virginia Tech goes into their ACC Championship Game on Saturday as one of the hottest teams in the nation. They went an impressive 8-0 in conference play and are looking to make it 9-0 when they take on Florida State. The Seminoles excel at getting to the quarterback, but that will be tough to do against senior quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Look for the Hookies to use their ground game to keep FSU’s defense honest, while Tech’s defense should be able to shut down Christian Ponder and company on route to the win, and the cover.
Game: (9) Oklahoma at (13) Nebraska
Spread: Oklahoma -4
Reason: The Cornhuskers will be poised to end their tenure in the Big 12 with a win in the conference championship game against their rivals from Oklahoma. The big question coming into this game surrounds the health of Taylor Martinez, but whether he is healthy enough to play, or not, you can expect sophomore Cody Green to see some action as well. That could mean a heavy does of Roy Helu Jr., but either way, we expect the explosive Nebraska offense to put some points on the board. As for the Sooners, they have some injury problems of their own, with running back DeMarco Murray’s status still up in the air. Look for Nebraska’s defense, which has been stingy all year, to shut down the Sooners offense on route to a victory in their final Big 12 Championship Game, before they make the move to the Big 10 in 2011.
Current Record: 22-13-1 (Last Week: 3-0)
