The Stat Line Of The Night — 2/9/11 — Dwight Howard

The Orlando Magic have struggled as of late, heading into last night’s game with only four wins in their previous nine contests.  They have also struggled on the road, sitting only one game above .500 away from the Amway Center.  That made the thought of earning a win in Philadelphia against a suddenly surging 76ers team seem like a rather daunting task, but I guess nothing is too difficult when you have Dwight Howard in your line-up.

Howard was a monster all night long, giving the 76ers fits in the paint as he recorded a game-high 30 points to go along with an impressive 17 rebounds.  The Magic center entered the game with five 20-20 games already this season, and he was just three rebounds away from making it six.  However, he would add another two steals and two blocked shots to his impressive stat line, en route to the 99-95 road victory.

Despite early expectations of being able to challenge the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics for top spot in the East, the Magic currently sit in fifth in the conference.  That could make things difficult for them come playoff time as they may find themselves forfeiting home-court advantage throughout the post-season.  If they hope to improve upon their previous playoff performances, a better position in the standings is vital.  Dwight Howard can help them achieve that, but for now he earns out “Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, February 9, 2011.
