Wayne Rooney’s Spectacular Goal vs. Samuel Eto’o ‘s Incredible Miss (Videos)

by: JamieD On  Monday, February 14, 2011

This past weekend in European club soccer action brought us some incredible highlights and some rather embarrassing lowlights.

Most notable among the highlights was the unbelievable overhead strike from Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, which many are now referring to as the “wonder goal.”  Not only was it a wonderful display of execution from the Man U striker, as he timed Nani’s cross perfectly and delivered the ball into the top corner of the net, but it also helped his club defeat their rivals from Manchester City by a score of 2-1.

Here is a look at the goal.

As for the lowlight of the weekend, that comes from Milan, where Inter was taking on Juventus in Serie A action.  With only two minutes remaining in the game, and Inter trailing 1-0, Samuel Eto’o found himself with the ball at his feet and an empty net standing only a few feet in front of him.  Just when it seemed as though the tying goal was all but assured, the Cameroonian’s strike rang off the crossbar and out of harm’s way.  That was as close as Inter could come as they fell further behind their inner-city rivals from AC Milan for top spot in the league.

You can watch the embarrassing miss below.

So there you have it.  Wayne Rooney provided us with a “wonder goal,” while Eto’o left us all wondering how someone of his caliber could miss from such a position.  Two unbelievable plays with two very different results, leaving us asking ourselves which is harder to believe?  The goal, or the miss? Take the time to vote below.
