Things Get Punchy Between No. 4 Pitt And No. 9 Villanova (Video)
NCAA Division II schools rarely get any love from ESPN’s SportsCenter. That is not much of a surprise, seeing as how they must compete with over 100 bigger schools from Division I for airtime. Their only shot at getting a segment on the nation’s top daily sports news television show is to provide us all with a moment of brilliance.
The University of Bridgeport did just that, albeit with less than a minute remaining in a blow-out victory.
Rather than simply run out the clock with just over 40 seconds remaining and a 96-59 lead, Bridgeport had enough time to score on two monster slams off the fast break, the first of which included a pass off the backboard. That would make the score 100-59, and send the crowd into a frenzy.
Judging by the reaction from the fans, you would think they had just won free pizza for reaching the century mark.
