Frozen Fisticuffs Fight Of The Night — A Lesson In Hockey Fight Etiquette — 2/17/11

by: JamieD On  Friday, February 18, 2011

With only two fights taking place in the NHL last night, and both being rather boring, we figured today would be the perfect time to give all of our readers a lesson in hockey fight etiquette.  Most are well aware of the unwritten rules that state you do not fight an unwilling opponent and you do not punch a player while he is down.  Those are some of the basics that all fighters should abide by.

Then there are those that go above and beyond these simple rules, like Matt Siddal of the ECHL’s Victoria Salmon Kings and Guillaume Lefebvre of the Bakersfield Condors, who were both kind enough to remove each other’s helmets before throwing any punches during their bout a few days ago.  You can even see them discussing the matter before Siddal actually unbuckles Lefebvre’s chin strap and removes his helmet for him.  And once that order of business is taken care of, it’s fight time!
