Is this even legal? I have seen players tap the ball to begin a set-piece play before, but never have I seen them flip the ball over their head to an oncoming teammate who volley’s it out of the air and into the top corner of the net.
The innovation is brilliant, but I’m not quite sure how this could possibly be allowed in the game of soccer. If it were a legal play, wouldn’t we have already seen it being performed in the English Premier League, Serie A, or La Liga? Surely the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney would all be able to pull off such a trick.
So what gives here? Have they just never thought of it? Or was this an illegal play that the referee simply missed? Whatever the case may be, it shouldn’t stop us from watching in amazement.
