Swarm Of Bees Delays Brazilian Soccer Match, Teams Brawl (Videos)

by: JamieD On  Monday, May 2, 2011

If a flooded pitch isn’t enough to stop a soccer match from being played in Brazil, what makes you think a swarm of bees would be?

During a Goiania state championship semifinal match between Goias and Vila Nova, play was halted for approximately 20 minutes as a swarm of bees occupied the top corner of one goal post.  Firefighters were called on the scene and used diesel fuel and fire extinguishers to get rid of the black and yellow flying insects so that play could resume.

The two teams would go on to play to a 2-2 draw, before a brawl erupted between players from both sides at the end of the game.  The police were eventually able to restore order, but the madness would not end there, as a 19-year-old Goias fan was shot and killed outside the stadium afterwards.

Here is a look at the events that took place on the pitch in Goias on Sunday.
