Phillie Phanatic Hospitalized After Taking Foul Ball In The Neck (Video)

When it comes to baseball mascots, the Phillie Phanatic is one of the best in the business, and he is also one of the toughest.  He proved the latter last night while working some overtime with the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

While entertaining some fans behind the first base dugout during the top of the third inning, the Phanatic was struck in the neck with a foul ball, which just so happens to be where Tom Burgoyne’s head is positioned within the costume.  Burgoyne played along for a while before eventually being taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he was treated in the emergency room before being released.

The Phillies have yet to place the Phanatic on the 15-Day DL, which means they are likely expecting him to return to action when the team returns home tomorrow to take on the Oakland Athletics during a three-game weekend series.

Here is footage of the Phanatic taking one in the throat last night.
