The Daily Gambling Fix 7/12/11 — Justene Jaro
The Game: American League vs. National League
The Reason: Before losing last year by a score of 3-1, the American League hadn’t lost an All-Star Game since 1996. The NL has some great pitchers in Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Tim Lincecum and Jair Jurrjens, but the American League has the bigger bats (as we saw last night in the home run derby), as well as some lethal arms of their own. With plenty of Red Sox and Yankees players on the AL squad, look for the extra-incentive of home-field advantage in the World Series to get them motivated enough to win tonight’s Mid-Summer Classic.
The Game: Chile vs. Peru
The Reason: With a win and a tie in their opening two matches. Peru may be content with simply sitting back in this game and going for the 0-0 draw. Each of their previous two games of this tournament have gone under the 2.5 goal total and we expect the same to happen tonight. Even if Chile jumps out to an early lead, it will be tough for Peru to get anything going offensively against their much more talented counterpart. With a spot in the knockout stage on the line, look for both teams to play smart defensively as this game goes under the total.
