Dude Who Caught Jeter’s 3000th Hit Is Getting His Own Baseball Card

by: JamieD On  Thursday, July 14, 2011

When Christian Lopez caught Derek Jeter’s 3000th hit, a home run at Yankee Stadium, he had the opportunity to make some quick cash and get rid of his $150,000 student loan.  He lost that opportunity when he decided to return the ball to Derek Jeter for free.

It was an honorable move by the recent college graduate and he will be rewarded for it with his own Topps baseball trading card.  Topps vice president for sports, Mark Sapir said in a statement that the company will make a card for Lopez, which will be included in their set later this year.

Hopefully the card is worth somewhere around $250,000 and Lopez gets one of his own, because that is the amount that some believe he missed out on by returning the valuable piece of memorabilia to the Yankees shortstop.
