Watch Victor Martinez Dance Around Kurt Suzuki’s Tag At Home Plate (Video)

by: JamieD On  Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Some baseball players prefer to run over the catcher during a close play at the plate.  Others would rather avoid all contact by simply hurdling over the catcher.  And then there is Victor Martinez of the Detroit Tigers, who has an entirely different technique for dodging tags at home plate.

As a catcher himself, one could assume that Martinez has sympathy for other catchers, and would therefore prefer to avoid running over them.  We could also assume that he likely doesn’t have the leaping abilities to hurdle over the opposing catcher.  So instead, he simply dances around them, like he did to the Oakland A’s Kurt Suzuki during yesterday’s game.

Here it is.
