The Stat Line Of The Night — 7/27/11 — Ervin Santana
The Stat Line Of The Night — 7/28/11 — Mark Trumbo
Wins have become increasingly important for the Los Angeles Angels, as their strong play as of late has helped them climb to within two games of the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West. With the Rangers earning a win in Minnesota, the Angels needed to do the same in Detroit if they hoped to remain only two games back of the division leaders. A solid performance at the plate from Mark Trumbo would help them get that victory.
The rookie first baseman was a force to be reckoned with, going 3-for-5 at the dish with a double, a triple and a home run. He was only one single away from the cycle, but he did drive in five runs while scoring three of his own, as the Angels cruised to the 12-7 victory. Perhaps the only thing that would have made Trumbo’s night even more impressive was if he had recorded that elusive single, but he still did enough to earn himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, July 28, 2011.
