The Stat Line Of The Night — 8/1/11 — Asdrubal Cabrera

After starting the season on a tear, it has been “back to reality” for the Cleveland Indians over the course of the past couple of months, as they found themselves only one game above .500 heading into last night’s game against the Boston Red Sox.  However, they were still only 2.5 games out of top spot in the AL Central, and they had the opportunity to cut into that deficit with the first-place Tigers out of action last night.

Earning a win against Boston’s high powered offense is never an easy task, but the Indians were up for it, especially Asdrubal Cabrera, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs.  His first homer, a two-run shot that came in the sixth inning, put the Indians ahead by a score of 4-3.  The Sox would tie things up at 5-5 in the bottom of the inning, but when Cabrera stepped to the plate again in the eighth, he put the Indians back ahead for good with another two-run shot.  Cleveland would hold on from there for the 9-6 victory, thanks in large part to Cabrera’s power surge, which earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, August 1, 2011.
