The Stampeders’ Romby Bryant Gets Jacked Up! (Video)
It was on this day in 1996 that the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Dallas Cowboys 32-6 in the American Bowl. The game was played at the Estadio Universitario near Monterrey, Mexico.
The American Bowl was a series of National Football League pre-season exhibition games that were played all over the world starting in 1986 and ending in 2005. The games were played primarily to promote American football in other countries. This particular game matched up the defending Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys against the AFC West Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs finished the regular season with the best record at 13-3, while the Cowboys finished with the second best record at 12-4.
Although the Chiefs easily handled the Cowboys, it was mostly due to the fact that most teams do not play all of their starters for a majority of the game. Like most pre-season games played in the National Football League, the first string players would play for only a limited time in the first quarter before making way for the backups.
