Seeing is believing? That depends.

These days, big advertising agencies have caught on the to power of “going viral.” Some of them have just tried to make traditional commercials that are so funny people will forward them around to friends. However, the best ad agencies have realized that it’s even more effective to make commercials that don’t look like commercials at all.

In the world of sports, where people love to see amazing feats, this is a powerful tactic. Enter this Easton “commercial,” which looks and sounds as though it’s just a home movie made by some college baseball players:

Of course, this is not some home movie, and this guy isn’t really hitting balls that smash flying clay pigeons. It’s computer magic.

But I still think it’s awesome. And why not? We can’t enjoy an incredible video even if we know it’s not “real?” None of us thought Inception was real when we saw it, but that didn’t mean we didn’t enjoy it. As far as I’m concerned, the only real problem with videos like this is that, now that they’re making so many of them, we start to automatically assume stuff is fake and lose that brief moment when the brain really believes. (Remember, ignorance is bliss.)
