Stat Line Of The Night — 8/29/11 — Randy Wells

Randy Wells of the Chicago Cubs is 6-4 with a 5.06 ERA on the season and has never made an all-star game or won a Cy Young Award.  Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants is 12-11 with a 2.58 ERA on the season, and has won two Cy Young Awards and made four all-star games over the course of his five year career.  So when these two pitchers square off, you would think Lincecum would be the one coming away with “Stat Line of the Night” honors.

Not this time!

Randy Wells was lights out last night against the Giants, allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out seven during his first complete-game shutout of the season.  He would get plenty of run support on the night, as the Cubs belted four home runs en route to the 7-0 victory, but all Wells needed on this night was one of those home runs, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, August 29, 2011.
