Stat Line Of The Night — 9/19/11 — Mariano Rivera

Listening to the sound of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” blasting on the stadium speakers as Mariano Rivera makes his way out of the bullpen has become a common theme at Yankees games.  Equally common has been the sight of Rivera mowing down batters with his cut fastball and shaking hands with his catcher shortly after earning another save.

Rivera did all of the above for the 602nd time last night, passing Trevor Hoffman for first on the all-time career saves list.

With the Yankees leading the Minnesota Twins by a score of 6-4 heading into the ninth inning, Rivera stepped onto the mound and retired Trevor Plouffe, Michael Cuddyer and Chris Parmelee via a ground out, a line out and a strikeout, respectively.  That performance earned Rivera a spot in the record books, as well as “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, September 19, 2011.
