Yanks’ Catcher Austin Romine Catches A Bee With His Mitt (Video)

by: JamieD On  Wednesday, September 21, 2011

A catcher’s glove is typically used to catch 90 mph fastballs, but Yankees’ catcher Austin Romine found a different use for it during the first game of a double-header against the Tampa Bay Rays today.

With a bee swarming around Romine and home plate umpire Scott Barry, the Yankees’ rookie catcher caught the buzzing insect with one quick swipe of his glove, before getting ready for the next pitch.¬† I believe it is fair to assume that the act may have earned his pitching staff a few favorable strike calls from a grateful Barry.

Here is a look at the incident.
