Stat Line Of The Night — 9/21/11 — David Freese

After watching the Atlanta Braves drop yet another game to the Florida Marlins, the St. Louis Cardinals had a great opportunity to close in on top spot in the National League wild card race.  In order to take advantage of that opportunity, someone would need to step up and capture the moment, and with the likes of Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman and Yadier Molina in their line-up, it was a rather unlikely source that would step up during last night’s game against the New York Mets.

That unlikely source was third baseman David Freese, who hit a two-run triple in the first inning, and a three-run homer in the seventh to put the Cards up for good, en route to their 6-5 victory.  Freese would finish the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with one run and five RBIs.  Those numbers were good enough to earn his team the victory and move them to within 1.5 games of the Braves for the NL wild card.  It also earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, September 21, 2011.
