The Game: Tampa Bay Rays @ Texas Rangers

The Pick: Rangers -1.5 +110

The Reason: Many people will be on the Tamp Bay Rays after their incredible run into the post season, but what people don’t realize is that there really hasn’t been anything incredible about the play of the Rays throughout the month of September.  Their 17-10 record for the month is solid, but their post-season appearance has more to do with the collapse of the Red Sox.  Surprisingly, the hotter team heading into this matchup is the Rangers, as they have won their last six in a row, nine of their last ten, and 19 of 25 in the month of September.  Rangers starter C.J. Wilson is 3-1 with a 1.21 ERA in September and he has beaten the Rays in his last two starts against them.  Look for the Rangers’ bats to take advantage of the Rays’ rookie pitcher, Matt Moore, as they come away with a sizable victory.

The Game: Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees

The Pick: Tigers +120

The Reason: If we learned anything from last year’s post-season, it is that a dominant pitcher can take a team a long way.  The Tigers have that dominant pitcher in Justin Verlander, and he will need to get his team off to a good start if they hope to stand a chance against the Yankees.  The Tigers have won five of their last six overall, and their last three in a row against the Yankees.  Look for Verlander to come out and establish himself against the Yankees’ bats, as the Tigers take Game One in New York.

2011 Record: (186-166-9), This Week: (5-3), Last Week: (5-3-1)
