Stat Line Of The Night — 10/3/11 — LeGarrette Blount
A theme is developing on the field for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In their opening game of the season they handed the ball off to running back LeGarrette Blount only five times, and they would go on to lose that game to the Detroit Lions. The following week they handed Blount the ball just five times in the first half, and found themselves trailing by a score of 17-0. When they finally did decide to give him the ball, he rewarded them with two second half touchdowns, leading the Bucs to the 24-20 comeback victory. In week three they handed Blount the ball 24 times and they would go on to beat the Falcons by a score of 16-13.
Can you see the trend that is developing here? Hand Blount the ball and the Bucs win!
It seems as though Bucs’ head coach Raheem Morris has finally caught on, as he handed his bruising running back the ball 25 times during last night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, and he turned that into 127 rushing yards, including a game-winning 35-yard touchdown run. Blount also had one reception for 14 yards during the game, as he was a key factor in the Bucs’ 24-17 victory.
The incredible performance from the former Oregon Duck should earn him more opportunities to carry the ball for an offense that has struggled to score in the red zone, but for now, it earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, October 3, 2011.
