Stat Line Of The Night — 10/5/11 — David Freese
Stat Line Of The Night — 10/6/11 — James Reimer
If the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to make the playoffs for the first time in seven years, they will need James Reimer to step up and win them some games in goal. Both he and the rest of the Leaf players got off to a great start last night, as they won their season opener against their long-time rivals, the Montreal Canadiens.
The Canadiens dominated the first period, but Reimer held his ground, stopping all 14 shots he faced and keeping the score tied at 0-0. He wouldn’t get much work in the second frame, but he was called upon to stop another 14 shots in the third and protect his team’s 2-0 lead, and he did just that, starting the season off with the shutout victory.
Reimer stopped 32 shots in all during a stellar performance that got his team off to a strong start to the 2011-12 season. As a result, he earns out “Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, October 6, 2011.
