Stat Line Of The Night — 10/10/11 — Nelson Cruz
Albert Pujols had himself a night worth mentioning, as he hit three doubles and a home run during the St. Louis Cardinals’ 12-3 victory in Milwaukee, but last night truly belonged to the Texas Rangers’ Nelson Cruz, who always seemed to step up whenever his team needed a big hit.
Cruz’s clutch performance began in the seventh inning, when he hit a solo home run over the left field fence to tie the game up at 3-3, and it ended in the bottom of the 11th inning after Cruz belted a walk-off grand slam to give the Texas Rangers the 7-3 victory and the 2-0 series lead over the Detroit Tigers.
Cruz would finish the game going 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, a double and five RBIs. That performance has put the Rangers in position to make their second straight World Series appearance, and it was enough to earn Cruz the “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, October 10, 2011.
