Stat Line Of The Night — 10/12/11 — Claude Grioux
After recording 76 points in 82 games last season, Claude Giroux entered the 2011-12 NHL season with some awfully high expectations. Those expectations were so high that Flyers GM Paul Holmgren figured he could afford to trade away superstar forwards Mike Richards and Jeff Carter in the off-season in order to upgrade in goal.
It was a risky move, but three games into the season Giroux has lived up to the hype and his GM is now looking like a genius.
Giroux entered last night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks with two goals in two games, and he added another goal and two assists to his tally. All three of his points came on the first three goals for the Flyers, as they jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead and held on for the 5-4 victory.
With the win, the Flyers are now off to a 3-0 start to the season. As for Giroux, he is now tied for second in league scoring with five points, and he also earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, October 12, 2011.
