Stat Line Of The Night — 10/13/11 — Delmon Young
With their backs against the wall, it was all hands on deck for the Detroit Tigers during Game 5 of the ALCS yesterday afternoon. That meant left fielder Delmon Young was in the line-up, despite playing with injured ribs.
His injury has already caused him to miss two ALCS games, but they wouldn’t keep him out of yesterday’s must-win game, as Young battled through the pain and helped his team live another day by hitting two home runs during the Tigers’ 7-5 victory. Young’s first homer off C.J. Wilson in the fourth inning put his team up by one run, while his two-run shot in the sixth capped off a four-run inning that broke the game open.
Young will undoubtedly be in the line-up once again for Game 6 in Texas on Saturday and if the Tigers expect to pull off the miraculous series comeback, will need him to continue to fight through the pain and produce in key situations like he has throughout the playoffs thus far. He came through for them last night, and it earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, October 13, 2011.
