Stat Line Of The Night — 10/23/11 — DeMarco Murray
Special shout-outs go out to Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints (325 passing yards, 5 touchdowns), Arian Foster of the Houston Texans (234 total yards, 3 TDs), and Derek Holland of the Texas Rangers (8.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER), who all put up incredible stat lines during their respective games in their respective sports yesterday. Unfortunately for them, only one person can win the “Stat Line of the Night,” and that person is DeMarco Murray.
Since Emmitt Smith left the Dallas Cowboys back in 2002, Jerry Jones and company have been searching for a running back to replace him. Julius Jones, Marion Barber and Felix Jones couldn’t quite fit the bill, but if yesterday’s performance is any indication of what’s to come, Murray just might be their man.
With Felix Jones expected to be out for a while, the rookie out of Oklahoma was given his first start of his career, and he didn’t disappoint, taking his first handoff of the game 91-yards for the touchdown. He would finish the day with 253 rushing yards and a touchdown. That total was good enough to pass Emmitt Smith for the most rushing yards by a Cowboys running back in a single game. It was also enough to earn him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, October 23, 2011.
