Stat Line Of The Night — 10/31/11 — Ryan Callahan
The New York Rangers were in tough at home against the red-hot San Jose Sharks, but like any good captain, Ryan Callahan was there to lead his team to a big victory.
The newly anointed captain of the Rangers entered the game with only three points – all goals – in his first nine games of the season, but he would double that total with two goals and an assist during the Rangers’ 5-2 win last night. Callahan’s first goal helped break a 2-2 tie 14 minutes into the second period. That goal seemed to inspire the Rangers’ offense, as they scored two more before the period was done, including another off the stick of Callahan.
In addition to snapping the Sharks’ five-game winning streak, the Rangers also snapped a two-game losing streak of their own and earned their first victory at the newly renovated Madison Square Gardens. Callahan was a big reason for that and he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, October 31, 2011.
