Stat Line Of The Night — 12/1/11 — Marshawn Lynch
Stat Line Of The Night — 12/2/11 — Cam Newton
Heading into week 13 of the NFL, the battle for offensive Rookie of the Year honors appeared to be a two horse race between Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Dalton entered the week with the better team record, as his Bengals were an impressive 7-4 after 11 games, however, it was Newton who has been posting the much better individual stats this season. He was at it once again yesterday afternoon.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense had no answer for Newton, who seemed to be doing it all. In addition to completing 12 of his 21 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown through the air, he also compiled 54 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. And just to top things off, Newton decided to get involved in the receiving game, hauling in one pass for 27 yards, as the Panthers cruised to the 38-19 victory.
Newton’s three rushing touchdowns on the day give him a total of 13 rushing touchdowns on the season. That is good enough to earn him the single-season record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, and it also earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, December 4, 2011.
