Referee Stephen Walkom Lays A Big Hit On Kimmo Timonen (Video)
There were plenty of hits being dished out during last night’s game between the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers, as the teams delivered a total of 22 and 21 hits, respectively. However, their combined 43 hits were largely overshadowed by the single check delivered by the officiating crew.
That hit came late in the third period, as referee Stephen Walkom dropped Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen with a stiff check deep in the Capitals’ zone.
Timonen wasn’t pleased with the check, and rightfully so, seeing as how Walkom clearly left his feet, yet he was somehow able to avoid a charging penalty on the play. I guess when you are the one making the calls on the ice, you tend to get those types of breaks.
Take a look.
