Ilya Kovalchuk Scores Own-Goal, Canes’ Goalie Cam Ward Gets Credit (Video)
Ilya Kovalchuk may be a regular on the weekly highlight packages, but the Devils’ forward seems to have a knack for getting himself onto the yearly lowlight packages as well. Last year he did so after failing miserably during a shootout opportunity early in November. This time around he was busy scoring on his own net, via an errant pass with the goalie pulled and his team trailing 3-2.
What makes this own-goal even more interesting is the fact that goaltender Cam Ward was the last Hurricanes player to touch the puck. As a result, he earns credit for the goal and moves up from 574th into a tie for 448th in league scoring.
Here is a look at the goal that got him there.
