Watch Nick Foligno Send Dion Phaneuf Head-Over-Heels (Video)
Some of you may recall a low hit by Brad Marchand on the Canucks’ Sami Salo that resulted in a five-minute clipping penalty and a five-game suspension for the Bruins’ forward. Well it appears as though the NHL and their chief disciplinarian, Brendan Shanahan, have a very similar case on their hands following last night’s edition of the Battle of Ontario.
After exchanging words and slashes between whistles moments earlier, Nick Foligno and Dion Phaneuf came together in an unfriendly manner once again deep in the Senators’ zone, as the Sens’ forward ducked a check from the Leafs’ captain, sending Phaneuf soaring head-over-heels.
That earned Foligno a two-minute penalty for clipping, but according to Phaneuf, a short break in the box was not enough of a punishment for his opponent, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.
The Sens would go on to earn the 3-2 victory, but one thing became quite apparent during last night’s game: For the first time in a while it appears as though there is some meaning and excitement back in the Battle of Ontario.
