Stat Line Of The Night — 1/23/12 — Kyle Clifford
Stat Line Of The Night — 1/24/12 — Mathieu Perreault
With Alex Ovechkin sitting out the first game of this three-game suspension last night, the Washington Capitals were looking for someone to step up in their captain’s absence. Most would have figured Alexander Semin, Marcus Johansson or Troy Brouwer would be strong candidates to fill the void, but they all took a backseat to the surprise hero of the night, Mathieu Perreault.
Perreault headed into last night’s game against the Boston Bruins with only four goals on the season, and he would nearly double that total as he recorded a hat-trick during the Caps impressive 5-3 victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Perreault clearly benefited from Ovechkin’s absence, as his 13:56 of playing time was his second highest total of the season. And he made the most of it, earning himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
