Stat Line Of The Night — 1/31/12 — John Tavares
Stat Line Of The Night — 2/1/12 — Henrik Lundqvist
Few were probably happier to see the All-Star Game end than New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. During Sunday’s game he was beaten on three occasions in one period of play, with two of those goals coming off the stick of his teammate, Marian Gaborik. But with Gaborik back on his team for last night’s game against the Buffalo Sabres, Lundqvist looked to be unbeatable once again.
He certainly was unbeatable on this occasion, as the Sabres fired 34 shots in his direction during 65 minutes of play, but couldn’t beat the All-Star netminder. Unfortunately, the Rangers were unable to muster up any offensive production themselves. As a result, this game went into a shootout, where Lundqvist would remain stellar and stop four of the five shooters he faced to earn the Rangers the 1-0 victory.
The win moved the Rangers into a tie with the Detroit Red Wings for first overall in the NHL. As for Lundqvist, his perfect outing helped him move into top spot among all goalies in save percentage and shutouts, and it also earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
