Stat Line Of The Night — 2/23/12 — Devan Dubnyk
Stat Line Of The Night — 2/26/12 — Martin St. Louis
One season after reaching the Eastern Conference finals and coming one win away from playing in the Stanley Cup finals, the Tampa Bay Lightning find themselves on the outside of the playoffs looking in with exactly 20 games remaining in the 2011-12 NHL season. And with the 8th-place Winnipeg Jets only six points ahead with two more games played, every game from here on out is critical for the Lightning. Yesterday afternoon’s battle against the New Jersey Devils was no exception.
No one knows the importance of each game down the stretch better than Lightning veteran Martin St. Louis, as his sense of urgency was quite apparent in his performance on Sunday. With Tampa trailing 1-0 heading into the second period, the speedy winger took control of the game, scoring two goals in the second period to give his team the 2-1 lead. He would complete his hat-trick and add an assist in the third period, as the Lightning held on for the important 4-3 victory.
With three goals and one assist, St. Louis had a hand in each of the Lightning’s tallies, and they needed every one of them in order to stay in the playoff hunt. As a result, St. Louis earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, February 26, 2012.
