The Daily Gambling Fix — 3/13/12 — Valerie Cormier
The Game: Boston Bruins @ Tampa Bay Lightning
The Reason: The Lightning have made a habit of going over the total as of late, as they have gone over in four of their last five overall, and 19 of their last 25 at home. They are allowing a league-high 3.4 goals against, while their opponent tonight, the Boston Bruins, as scoring a league-high 3.3 goals per game. With the Bruins expected to score goals tonight, the Lightning will need to do the same, and they shouldn’t have a problem with that, as they are averaging 3.3 goals per game at home and the Bruins have allowed nine goals against in their last two games after starting goaltender Tuukka Rask went down with a groin injury. Four of the last five games between these two teams in Tampa have gone over the total. Look for much of the same tonight.
The Game: Washington Capitals @ New York Islanders
The Reason: The Capitals’ playoff lives are now on the line and they finally appear to be playing with the type of desperation you would expect to see in their game, as they have won their last three games in a row, and six of their last nine. As for the New York Islanders, they have lost their last three in a row, and six of their last eight. The Caps have won 12 of the last 15 meetings between these two teams, including six of the last seven on Long Island. Look for them to escape with the much needed victory tonight.
