Southern Miss Band Asks Kansas State’s Angel Rodriguez, “Where’s Your Green Card?” (Video)
One of the opening games of the 2012 NCAA Tournament was a tightly contested match-up between No. 8 Kansas State and No. 9 Southern Mississippi. The Golden Eagles new that they would have to do everything in their power to throw off the Wildcats players if they were going to come away victorious, and even their band was doing everything they could to help their cause. But while the band did go awfully far in their efforts to distract the Kansas State players, many would say that they may have gone a little too far.
At least that is my assessment of the situation, after listening to the band chant “Where’s your Green Card” at the Wildcats’ Angel Rodriguez as he headed to the foul line for a couple of free throws during the final minutes of the half. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles and their band, those racist comments would only motivate Rodriguez (who is Puerto Rico), as he posted 13 points, four rebounds and three assists (all above his season averages in each category) and the Wildcats earned the 70-64 victory.
You can listen to the racist chants from the Southern Mississippi band in the video below.
