Leafs Fans Were Cheering For The Blue Jays During Last Night’s 7-1 Loss (Video)
It isn’t often that the people of Toronto will choose baseball over hockey, but that is exactly what happened during last night’s game between the Leafs and the Philadelphia Flyers at the Air Canada Center.
With the Leafs trailing the Flyers by a score of 5-1 seven minutes into the third period, and seemingly on the verge of losing their 11th straight home game, the members of Leafs Nation still in attendance decided to shift their attention – and their allegiance – towards what many in the city feel could be a very successful season for their baseball club, as chants of “Let’s Go Blue Jays” echoed throughout the building. This is by no means the first time that Leafs fans have voiced their displeasure with the direction of the club, and unless they shed their losing ways, I wouldn’t expect it to be the last.
For a city who has suffered through the pain of watching their four major sports teams (Leafs, Raptors, Blue Jays and Toronto FC) fail to win a single playoff series since the Leafs beat the Senators in the first round of the 2004 NHL playoffs, one can only hope that the Jays will end this streak of futility and give the fans in Toronto a team that they can cheer for without having to wear a bag over their head.
Here is a look at the scene that unfolded inside the ACC last night.
