The Daily Gambling Fix — 4/11/12 — Natasha Belle
The Game: Los Angeles Kings @ Vancouver Canucks
The Reason: Two of the top defensive teams in the NHL square off in their post-season opener tonight when the Vancouver Canucks host the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Arena. The Kings ranked 29th in the league in goals scored (2.37 per game), while ranking second in goals against (2.18 per game). As for the Canucks, they ranked fourth in the league defensively, allowing just 2.41 goals against per game. These two teams have not gone over the total in each of their last eight meetings, with five of those games going under the total, and the other three pushing. Look for both teams to open their playoff runs with a solid defensive showing, as this game goes under the five-goal total.
The Game: Detroit Red Wings @ Nashville Predators
The Reason: The Wings enter the playoffs having gone under the total in four of their last five games, while the Predators have gone under in four of their last six. In their last 11 meetings, these two teams have gone under the total eight times, while going over the total just twice. They both rank within the league’s top ten defensively, and with Jimmy Howard and Pekka Rinne guarding the nets at each end, you can count on few goals being scored during Game One of this first-round series.
