Stat Line Of The Night — 4/12/12 — Matt Garza
The Chicago Cubs entered yesterday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers with only one win in their first six games of the season. It has been a disappointing start to the 2012 campaign for a team that is still seeking to win their first World Series title in 104 years, but they did manage to get back in the win column for only the second time this season on Thursday, thanks to a brilliant pitching performance from Matt Garza.
Garza was nearly untouchable, as he allowed only three hits, two walks and no earned runs over 8.2 innings of work against the Brewers. He also struck out nine batters over that frame, as he and the Chicago Cubs cruised to the easy 8-0 victory.
After earning a no-decision following his six-inning, two-earned-run performance against the Washington Nationals on April 7th, Garza’s performance yesterday helped him earn his first win of the season, as well as “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, April 12, 2012.
