Marian Hossa Stretchered Off The Ice After This Hit From Raffi Torres (Video)
Heading into last night’s trio of playoff games, NHL head disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan had handed out a total of eight suspensions (it probably should have been nine), and he will likely be handing out yet another following this brutal hit to the head by the Coyotes’ Raffi Torres on the Blackhawks’ Marian Hossa.
Hossa has been a solid playoff performer during his career, as he has recorded 62 points in 71 games over the past four post-seasons, while leading three different clubs to the Cup Finals – and winning the Cup on one of those occasions. However, he won’t get the opportunity to make his mark on the 2012 NHL post-season, as he will likely be sidelined for a significant amount of time after being stretchered off the ice and taken to the hospital last night following the questionable hit from Torres.
Hossa has since been discharged from the hospital, but he is still being closely monitored by team doctors. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville had the following to say about the check during his post-game press conference:
“I had a hard time, I saw exactly what happened. It was right in front of me all four (officials) missed it. The refereeing tonight was a disgrace.”
While Torres was able to dodge any on-ice punishment, his long list of illegal hits and suspensions likely won’t allow him to receiver the same leniency from Shanahan.
Here is a look at the hit.
