The Daily Gambling Fix — 5/2/12 — Moorea Wolfe
The Game: New York Rangers @ Washington Capitals
The Reason: The New York Rangers have gone over the five-goal total just once in their previous nine playoff games, and it came during Game One of their opening round series against the Ottawa Senators. The first two games of their second-round series against the Capitals have yielded 4 and 5 goals. These two teams have gone over the total just twice in their last ten meetings. After allowing three goals against during their Game 2 loss, look for Rangers’ goalie Henrik Lundqvist to shut the Caps offense down as both netminders put on a show and keep this game under the total.
The Game: Philadelphia Phillies @ Atlanta Braves
The Reason: The Phillies’ bats have been rather silent this season, as their 3.3 runs per game ranks 12th in the National League. Despite his impressive 1.95 ERA, starting pitcher Roy Halladay has lost his last two games, as he has received just one run from his offense in each of those games. Halladay has not allowed more than three earned runs against in any of his last five starts against the Braves, and four of those five games just so happened to go under the six-run total. As for Braves starter Tommy Hanson, none of his last three starts have gone over the total, and he has allowed one run against or less in each of his last four starts against the Phillies. Look for a pitcher’s duel to unfold tonight as this game goes under the total.
