Kazakhstan’s Roman Starchenko Knocked Unconscious Following Nasty Hit At IIHF Worlds (Video)
I’m not sure if the people of Kazakhstan watch a lot of NHL hockey. If so, they may have already known that the game is currently experiencing a head-shot epidemic. If not, they probably learned that fact on Sunday after watching one of their own fall victim to a nasty hit to the head during a game against France at the IIHF World Hockey Championships in Finland.
After receiving a pass at center ice, Kazakhstan’s Roman Starchenko was on the receiving end of a vicious hit to the head from Sacha Treille, which left him laying unconscious on the ice. A stretcher was wheeled out onto the playing surface, but much to everyone’s surprise, Starchenko was able to make it to his feet and skate off the ice under his own power.
As for Treille, he was assessed a major and match penalty for the careless hit to Starchenko’s head. He has also been suspended indefinitely while the IIHF disciplinary committee continues to review the incident.
You can check out the brutal scene that unfolded on the ice yesterday in Helsinki in the video below.
