The Daily Gambling Fix – 5/14/12 – Jessica Byrd
Here are some of the best sports plays for all you gamblers out there.
The Game: Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox
The Reason: The Detroit Tigers’ young starter Drew Smyly will take the mound against John Danks and the White Sox in Chicago tonight. The Tigers have been average in their last 10 games, going 5-5, but the White Sox have been 4-6 in their last 10, and have lost 2 straight coming into the game. Smyly has been pretty much untouchable so far this season with his ERA at 1.59, but just has not been able to get the run support to get victories when he has been pitching, as his record is only at 1-0 after 6 starts. Danks has been pretty much awful so far, with his ERA at 5.89 and his record at 2-4. Look for the Tigers to get Smyly run support early in the game off of Danks, and for Smyly to have a good enough start to earn the Tigers a victory over Chicago.
The Game: Tampa Bay Rays @ Toronto Blue Jays
The Reason: Jeff Niemann will start for the Tampa Bay Rays against Brandon Morrow of the Toronto Blue Jays in an A.L. East matchup that should be exciting. The Rays are 4-6 in their last 10, and the Jays are 5-5. Niemann has pitched well so far this season, with a 3.48 ERA and a record that does not match, at 2-3. Brandon Morrow has pitched brilliantly this year, with a sparkling 2.27 ERA and a 4-1 record. Morrow fought a high pitch count last game, but managed to strike out 10 batters in 6 innings, and his previous start was a 3-hit shutout against the Los Angeles Angels. Look for the score to stay low and the starters to go deep into the game, but for Morrow to out-duel Niemann and lead the Jays to a victory at home.
