Stat Line Of The Night — 5/25/12 — Chris Sale
After spending the last two seasons in the Chicago White Sox’s bullpen, Chris Sale was moved into the starting rotation for the 2012 campaign, and he hasn’t disappointed in his new role. The 23-year-old lefty entered yesterday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 5-2 record and a 2.50 ERA, and while winning hasn’t been easy for visiting teams at Tropicana Field, Sale proved that hitting his slider and fastball can be even tougher at times.
Sale faced a total of 27 batters on the day and he struck out 15 of them, while allowing only three hits and two walks during 7.1 innings of work. The Rays hitters could do little in the batter’s box against Sale, as he set a new career-high in strikeouts while leading the White Sox to the 2-1 victory.
With the win, Sale improves his record to 6-2, while lowering his ERA to 2.34 (good enough for second in the AL). In addition to that, his performance yesterday also helped him earn his first ever “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, May 28, 2012.
