Bill Murray Entertains Minor League Baseball Fans During Rain Delay (Video)
The rain delay is one of those idiosyncratic features of baseball that makes you either love the game or hate it.
The haters would argue that rain delays are boring, and that real men playing real sports play through bad weather (See Green Bay, Wisconson). But the lovers would insist that rain delays provide unique opportunities for awesomeness you just don’t get in other sports.
Now, I’ve got to admit that I’m a baseball lover, so I see rain delays as opportunities. After all, without rain delays, we never would have seen this:
Yes, that’s Bill Murray running the bases during a rain delay at the Charleston Riverdogs’ Riley Park.
What was Murray doing at a Charleston Riverdogs game? And who are the Charleston Riverdogs?
Well, working in reverse order, the Charleston Riverdogs are the single-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, located in historic Charleston, South Carolina. And Bill Murray was there because he owns them. Or part of them, anyway.
His official title with the team is “Director of Fun,” and judging by that spill he takes while diving for home plate, he takes the job very seriously.
So, yeah, this is why I love baseball.
