Stat Line Of The Night — 6/20/12 — Justin Masterson
With a 3-6 record and a 4.38 ERA heading into last night, Justin Masterson hasn’t been all that sharp on the mound for the Cleveland Indians this season. He was looking to turn things around against his inner-state rivals from Cincinnati, and lead his team to a three-game sweep of the Reds in the process. His gem helped him and the Indians do just that.
Putting forth what may very well be his most impressive performance of the 2012 season, Masterson stifled the Reds batters, allowing only three hits, no walks and no earned runs while striking out nine batters over nine innings of work. Thanks to an error by Asdrubal Cabrera in the eighth, he would be denied the shutout, but that unearned run was all he would surrender during the Indians’ 8-1 victory over the Reds.
With the win, the Indians now hold a half-game lead over the Chicago White Sox for top spot in the American League Central Division. As for Masterson, he improved his record to 4-6 and his ERA to 3.98, while earning himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, June 20, 2012.
