Umpire Jim Wolf Rules Carlos Santana Safe Even Though He Was Out By A Mile (Video)

by: Howard Cosmell On  Thursday, June 21, 2012

In yesterday’s MLB game between the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds, an umpire made a pretty puzzling call to the benefit of the Indians and their catcher, Carlos Santana.

Trouble is, Santana was called safe on the play by umpire Jim Wolf, despite the fact that Reds shortstop Zack Cozart clearly had the ball in his glove and his foot on the bag well before Santana reached second base. I guess the lesson here is that baseball is as susceptible to human error as anything else, not that anyone needed to be told that.

I guess we can add this clip to the many other existing clips that seem to support the wider use of instant replay in the game of baseball
